Judicial Commission Extends Sindh High Court Constitutional Benches’ Term

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has extended the term of the Constitutional Benches of the Sindh High Court (SHC) by one year during its first meeting on Tuesday, which was attended by newly nominated members from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Senator Rana Sanaullah Khan, recently appointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his deputy Ishaq Dar, respectively, joined the commission following the resignations of Senator Farooq H. Naek and Aftab Sheikh. Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi presided over the meeting, welcoming the new members.

This extension is significant as it ensures continuity in the judicial process at the SHC, which plays a crucial role in interpreting constitutional matters. The presence of political representatives in the JCP underscores the importance of collaboration between the judiciary and legislative branches in Pakistan.

Looking ahead, the JCP is expected to continue its work on various judicial reforms and appointments, with further meetings scheduled to address pressing legal issues and enhance the efficiency of the court system.
