Karachi’s Green Line Extension Set for Completion in FY27, Says Governor

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi announced on Saturday that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Green Line extension project, stretching from Numaish Chowrangi to Municipal Park near Jama Cloth Market, is expected to be completed during the fiscal year 2026-27. The federal government has already disbursed its allocated funds for the project.

During a surprise visit to the construction site, Governor Hashmi emphasized the urgency of accelerating the construction process to ensure that residents can benefit from improved public transport facilities as soon as possible. He noted that stations are currently being built along the 1.8-kilometre route, which is a significant enhancement to the city’s transport infrastructure.

Hashmi described the BRT Green Line as a transformative project for Karachi, significantly improving public transport options for its residents. He highlighted that the initiative was launched during the tenure of former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who envisioned a modern mass transit system for the bustling metropolis.

Looking ahead, the governor reiterated the necessity for ongoing major transport projects in Karachi to meet the growing demands of its population. He called for continued support and collaboration from federal authorities to ensure timely completion and operational efficiency of the Green Line extension.
