KP Government Considers Ending Health Card Program Amid Political Turmoil

Health Card Program

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is reportedly contemplating the discontinuation of its health card program following the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency measures. This significant development was announced by Information Advisor Samar Haroon Bilour during a press conference in Peshawar on October 30, 2026.

Bilour stated that the health card initiative, which has provided essential medical services to numerous residents, is under review as the provincial government navigates the current political crisis. He emphasized that the decision aims to reassess the program’s sustainability and effectiveness in light of recent governance changes.

The potential termination of the health card program raises concerns among citizens who have relied on it for affordable healthcare. Critics argue that discontinuing such a vital service could exacerbate health disparities in the region, particularly for low-income families who depend on government support for medical expenses.

As the situation unfolds, stakeholders are calling for a transparent dialogue regarding the future of the health card initiative. Upcoming meetings among provincial leaders and health officials are anticipated to address the program’s fate and explore alternative solutions to ensure continued healthcare access for the populace.
