Lizard-Tainted Dessert Kills Entire Family of Five in Kasur District
KASUR: In a heart-wrenching tragedy, all five members of a family have passed away after consuming poisoned rice pudding contaminated by a dead lizard at their residence in Kanganpur, Kasur district. The death toll reached five following the demise of the mother, who succumbed to toxic shock late Tuesday evening despite emergency medical efforts, joining her husband and three young sons who died earlier in the day.
Local police and rescue officials reported that the fatal domestic incident occurred when a lizard inadvertently fell into the traditional milk dessert while it was being prepared in the household kitchen. Unaware of the lethal contamination, the head of the family, his wife, and their three sons consumed the dish during dinner. Shortly afterwards, all family members developed severe gastrointestinal distress and lost consciousness. Emergency responders rushed the victims to a regional health facility, but medical staff were unable to reverse the acute organ failure caused by the severe toxicity.
The devastating event has cast a deep pall of gloom over the entire Kanganpur area, prompting community leaders and health authorities to urge heightened public awareness regarding domestic food storage and kitchen hygiene standards. Health experts emphasized that rural households must maintain stringent protocols when preparing and storing food items, particularly dairy-based products left exposed, to prevent accidental contamination by hazardous pests.
Punjab Police have initiated preliminary medico-legal formalities and gathered chemical samples from the kitchen premises to officially document the cause of death. Meanwhile, district authorities have handed over the bodies to grieving relatives after completing necessary legal procedures, with collective funeral prayers scheduled to take place in their native village.
