ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal stated on Monday that maintaining continuity in sustainable development policies is crucial for countries facing global uncertainties. Speaking at the 29th Sustainable Development Conference and 4th Sustainability Investment Expo, organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) at Allama Iqbal Open University, Iqbal highlighted the need for institutional preparedness and long-term strategic planning to address challenges posed by emerging technologies, climate change, and geopolitical tensions.

Iqbal emphasized that rapidly evolving technologies and increasing climate challenges are fundamentally reshaping economies and societies. He urged nations to adopt proactive strategies to transform these challenges into opportunities rather than succumbing to fear and uncertainty. “Countries must choose between being apprehensive and suffering the consequences or developing forward-looking strategies to harness emerging challenges,” he stated.

The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to technological advancement, noting the establishment of national centers of excellence in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and big data. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to equip the nation to thrive in a rapidly changing global landscape.

Looking ahead, Iqbal called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to ensure that sustainable development remains a priority. He encouraged further discussions and initiatives that will foster innovation and resilience in the face of ongoing global challenges.
