National Assembly Adjourns Again Due to Lack of Quorum Amid Key Discussions

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s proceedings came to a halt on Thursday as a lack of quorum forced the presiding officer to adjourn the session until Friday morning, despite an agenda that included 16 items.

During the session, only one bill was passed before a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) raised concerns about the insufficient number of members present. A headcount confirmed that the assembly did not meet the required quorum of 88 members, leading Abdul Qadir Patel, who was presiding, to adjourn the sitting after allowing additional time for attendance.

The question hour highlighted pressing issues, including the demolition of illegal structures in Islamabad, particularly in Sector E-12. Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry clarified that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is focused solely on demolishing illegal constructions, emphasizing the government’s commitment to urban planning and regulation.

Furthermore, concerns were raised regarding the non-rehabilitation of families displaced by the ML-1 project in Malir, indicating ongoing socio-economic challenges. The assembly’s inability to maintain quorum raises questions about legislative efficiency and the government’s ability to address critical issues facing citizens. The next session is expected to reconvene on Friday, where lawmakers will likely continue discussions on these pressing matters.
