NCCIA Arrests Two in Crackdown on Fake Loan App Extortion Network

PESHAWAR: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested two suspects linked to a fraudulent loan application network that allegedly extorted thousands of citizens. The arrests were made following a raid in Shangla, where the agency uncovered a sophisticated illegal lending operation.

During the operation, NCCIA officials recovered over 30 laptops and mobile phones, along with crucial personal data and call detail records (CDRs) that are expected to aid in further investigations. An agency spokesperson stated, “This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from financial fraud.”

The implications of this crackdown are significant, as it highlights the growing threat posed by digital financial scams in Pakistan. With an increasing number of citizens turning to online platforms for loans, the risk of exploitation by unscrupulous entities has escalated, raising concerns about consumer protection and financial literacy.

Looking ahead, the NCCIA plans to expand its investigation to identify additional accomplices and prevent further scams. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious loan applications to help combat this rising trend.
