Nine Parties Prequalify for Gujranwala Electric Power Company Acquisition

ISLAMABAD: The Privatisation Commission board has officially approved the prequalification of nine parties interested in acquiring a significant stake in the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco). This decision follows a board meeting held on Monday, chaired by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation Muhammad Ali.

During the meeting, it was reported that the commission received 11 expressions of interest (EoIs) for acquiring between 51% to 100% shareholding, along with management control of Gepco. After a thorough evaluation of the submissions against the approved prequalification criteria, the financial adviser recommended nine interested parties for progression to the next stage of the transaction.

The prequalified parties include three prominent Turkish energy companies, alongside leading Pakistani business groups and investment consortia. This diverse interest underscores the ongoing domestic and international investor confidence in Pakistan’s electricity distribution sector, which is critical for the country’s economic stability and growth.

The nine prequalified parties will now advance to the next phase of the transaction, which includes access to the Virtual Data Room (VDR) for detailed buy-side due diligence, as outlined in a press release from the commission.
