Novak Djokovic Overcomes Valentin Vacherot in Paris Masters Opener
PARIS: Novak Djokovic fought back from a set down to defeat Valentin Vacherot 6-7(5/7), 7-5, 6-1 in the first round of the Paris Masters on Tuesday. This victory marks Djokovic’s return to form at ATP 1000-level tournaments for the first time since his fourth-round exit at Indian Wells in March.
In a rematch of their previous encounter, where Vacherot triumphed on his way to winning the Shanghai Masters last season, Djokovic expressed his awareness of the challenge posed by the Monegasque player. “I knew that coming into the court it was going to be a very tight match as it was,” Djokovic stated. He acknowledged Vacherot’s confidence and skill, particularly as a server, following Vacherot’s recent title win in Basel.
This win is crucial for Djokovic as he aims to secure a spot in the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin later this month. Currently ranked 11th in the race for the eight-man tournament, Djokovic emphasized that his primary focus remains on winning each match rather than solely on qualifying for the Finals.
Looking ahead, Djokovic will seek to build on this momentum as he progresses through the tournament, with hopes of reclaiming his top form and securing a strong finish to the season.
