Pakistan Aims to Save $1 Billion in Fuel Imports with 30,000 REEVs Annually
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan could potentially save over $1 billion in fuel imports over the next five years by integrating 30,000 range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs) into its transportation system each year, according to insights from auto industry experts.
With this initiative, the total fleet of REEVs is projected to reach 150,000 vehicles by the fifth year. Industry estimates suggest that this transition could displace approximately 1.2 billion liters of petrol, significantly reducing the country’s reliance on imported fuel and contributing to environmental sustainability.
This shift towards REEVs not only promises substantial economic benefits but also aligns with global trends towards greener technologies. By decreasing fuel imports, Pakistan can redirect funds towards other critical sectors, potentially enhancing economic stability and energy security.
Looking ahead, stakeholders in the automotive and energy sectors are expected to convene in upcoming forums to discuss the implementation of this initiative, including potential incentives for manufacturers and consumers to adopt REEVs.
