Pakistan Aligns State-Owned Enterprises with International Financial Standards
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has officially amended its State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ownership and Management Policy, 2023, to ensure that the financial reporting framework for state-owned entities aligns with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This significant policy change was announced by the Finance Division on October 2, following federal government approval on September 30.
The amendment introduces three new provisions to Paragraph 31 of the policy, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in the financial operations of SOEs. An official from the Finance Division stated, “This alignment with IFRS is a crucial step towards improving the financial health and governance of state-owned entities, which play a vital role in Pakistan’s economy.”
This development is expected to have far-reaching implications for the country’s economic landscape. By adopting international standards, Pakistan aims to attract foreign investment and improve the credibility of its financial reporting, which has been a concern for investors. Analysts believe that this move could bolster investor confidence and lead to more robust economic growth.
Looking ahead, the government plans to conduct workshops and training sessions for SOE management teams to facilitate the transition to the new reporting standards. Stakeholders are optimistic that these efforts will lead to better financial practices and enhanced performance of state-owned enterprises in the coming years.
