Pakistan and Bahrain Strengthen Trade Ties During Joint Ministerial Meeting

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing bilateral trade with Bahrain during the third session of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in Islamabad on Thursday. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, who is on a two-day visit to Pakistan.

In a press briefing alongside Al Zayani, Dar highlighted the ambitious target set earlier to elevate bilateral trade from its current level of over $550 million to $1 billion. He emphasized the importance of this goal, noting that one year of the three-year timeline has already passed. “But God forbid, if we miss [the target by] a few months, we have a great excuse that this period has been very turbulent,” he quipped, acknowledging the challenges faced.

This initiative is expected to have significant implications for both nations, potentially boosting economic growth and fostering closer ties in various sectors. The enhancement of trade relations is seen as a strategic move to strengthen economic cooperation and mutual benefits, particularly in light of the global economic landscape.

Looking ahead, both countries are expected to continue discussions on trade facilitation and investment opportunities, with further meetings planned to monitor progress towards the $1 billion target. The JMC serves as a vital platform for addressing trade barriers and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
