Pakistan and Canada Initiate Third Round of Bilateral Investment Treaty Talks
ISLAMABAD: A special delegation from Canada has arrived in Islamabad to commence the third round of negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) between Pakistan and Canada. This three-day dialogue, taking place from October 19 to 21, 2026, is hosted at the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
The Canadian delegation aims to enhance bilateral trade relations and investment opportunities, reflecting both nations’ commitment to fostering economic cooperation. Officials from both sides are expected to discuss various sectors, including technology and infrastructure, which are pivotal for mutual growth.
This treaty is significant as it seeks to create a more favorable investment climate, potentially leading to increased foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan. The agreement could also strengthen economic ties, providing Canadian investors with greater confidence in the Pakistani market.
Looking ahead, both countries plan to hold further discussions to finalize the treaty terms, with expectations of concluding negotiations in the coming months. The outcomes of these talks could pave the way for enhanced economic collaboration and development initiatives.
