Pakistan and Malaysia Forge New Trade Roadmap to Boost Bilateral Relations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Malaysia have established a comprehensive roadmap aimed at enhancing trade and investment relations, as announced during a business conference on Friday.

Malaysian High Commissioner Dato Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, who led the ‘Malaysia-Pakistan Business Engagement 2026’ initiative, emphasized that bilateral trade could potentially rise from $1.5 billion to $5 billion through increased commercial engagement and active participation from the private sector. He highlighted the importance of transforming the longstanding friendship between the two nations into robust trade and investment partnerships, particularly noting Pakistan’s strategic position as a key trading partner in South Asia.

In his remarks, Mazlan identified several promising sectors for collaboration, including artificial intelligence, education, manufacturing, and services. He pointed out that Pakistan’s geographical advantage as a gateway to Central Asian markets and its youthful population are significant strengths that can be leveraged for mutual benefit. He also urged Pakistani businesses to explore opportunities in the edible oil and halal products sectors, citing successful investments such as Pakistani ventures in halal gelatine production in Malaysia.

Looking ahead, both countries are expected to engage in further discussions to solidify these initiatives and explore additional avenues for cooperation. The roadmap sets the stage for upcoming meetings aimed at fostering deeper economic ties and enhancing bilateral trade relations.
