Pakistan Expands 5G Network to 24 Cities with 1,782 Sites Deployed

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully deployed 1,782 5G sites across 24 cities, marking a significant milestone in the country’s telecommunications landscape. The rollout, led by Jazz with 1,015 sites, aims to enhance connectivity and digital services for millions of users.

According to IT and Telecommunication Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the expansion reflects the government’s commitment to advancing digital infrastructure. However, the adoption of 5G technology faces challenges, primarily due to the high cost of compatible smartphones, with the cheapest available device priced at approximately Rs36,000.

This development is poised to transform the digital experience for citizens, potentially boosting economic growth and innovation in various sectors. Enhanced connectivity can facilitate advancements in e-commerce, education, and telemedicine, contributing to a more digitally inclusive society.

Looking ahead, industry stakeholders are urged to address the affordability of 5G devices to ensure broader access. The government is expected to engage with telecom companies to explore solutions that could lower costs and promote widespread adoption of 5G technology.
