Pakistan Government Targets 3,000 EV Charging Stations by 2030

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has announced an ambitious plan to establish approximately 3,000 public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country by the year 2030. This initiative was revealed by the Ministry of Industries and Production during a session of the National Assembly on Thursday, in response to a query raised by Malik Shakir Bashir Awan.

The ministry’s written response highlighted that this initiative is part of the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy for the period 2025-2030, which aims to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan. The policy outlines a comprehensive framework to facilitate the development of EV infrastructure, thereby supporting the transition towards sustainable transportation.

This move is expected to significantly impact the automotive sector and the environment, as it aligns with global trends towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner energy sources. By increasing the availability of charging stations, the government aims to encourage more citizens to consider electric vehicles, which could lead to a decrease in reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to improved air quality.

Looking ahead, the government plans to engage with stakeholders in the automotive and energy sectors to finalize the implementation details of this policy. Further discussions are anticipated in upcoming parliamentary sessions, where the government will outline its strategy for rolling out these charging stations across urban and rural areas.
