Pakistan Launches $12 Billion Aviation Security Upgrade at Major Airports
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has announced a significant $12 billion initiative aimed at enhancing aviation security across four major airports in the country. This ambitious project is designed to align security measures with international standards, ensuring the safety of travelers and the integrity of air transport.
Officials from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revealed that the upgrade will take place at Islamabad International Airport, Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, and Peshawar’s Bacha Khan International Airport. The initiative is expected to commence in early 2024, with a focus on implementing advanced security technologies and training personnel to meet global benchmarks.
This upgrade is crucial not only for improving passenger safety but also for boosting Pakistan’s image as a secure travel destination. Enhanced security measures are anticipated to attract more international airlines and tourists, thereby positively impacting the economy and creating job opportunities in the aviation sector.
In the coming months, the CAA will hold consultations with international security experts and stakeholders to finalize the project details. The government aims to complete the upgrades by 2026, with periodic assessments to ensure compliance with evolving global security protocols.
