Pakistan Launches $2.25 Billion Lithium-Ion Battery Plant in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI: Margalla Heavy Industries Limited (MHIL), a military-owned enterprise, has announced plans to establish a $2.25 billion lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Rawalpindi, in collaboration with Chinese partners and local investors. The project aims to commence production within six to eight months, pending government policy approval.
Hamad Ali Mansoor, CEO of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), emphasized the significance of this venture, stating that it will not only bolster local manufacturing capabilities but also contribute to the growing demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy solutions in Pakistan.
This initiative is expected to have far-reaching implications for Pakistan’s economy, potentially creating thousands of jobs and positioning the country as a key player in the global battery market. As the world shifts towards sustainable energy, this plant could enhance Pakistan’s technological landscape and reduce reliance on imported batteries.
Looking ahead, the government is set to review the necessary policies to facilitate the establishment of the plant, with stakeholders anticipating a swift approval process to kickstart operations. Further announcements regarding timelines and investment details are expected in the coming weeks.
