Pakistan Secures 26 LNG Cargoes to Address Winter Gas Demand

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government is set to import 25 to 26 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from November to February to meet the anticipated surge in gas demand during the winter months. This strategic move aims to ensure a stable energy supply as temperatures drop across the country.

Sources indicate that the government plans to source these cargoes through long-term agreements with Qatar and other allied nations, alongside purchases from the spot market. This approach is designed to mitigate potential shortages and stabilize energy prices during the peak consumption period.

The decision to secure additional LNG supplies comes amid rising concerns over energy shortages that could impact households and industries alike. Ensuring a reliable gas supply is crucial for maintaining economic stability and supporting the country’s growth during the colder months.

Looking ahead, the government is expected to finalize contracts with international suppliers in the coming weeks, with an emphasis on diversifying sources to enhance energy security. Stakeholders are closely monitoring developments as the winter season approaches, highlighting the importance of timely procurement and effective energy management.
