Pakistan Sees Significant Surge in Seafood Exports in First Quarter
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s seafood exports have reached a remarkable $125.4 million in the first quarter of the fiscal year, marking a substantial increase of 74.4% compared to the previous year, according to Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.
Chaudhry highlighted that this growth in the fisheries sector is a testament to the government’s efforts to enhance the country’s marine product exports. He emphasized the importance of sustainable fishing practices and the need for further investment in the sector to maintain this upward trajectory.
The significant rise in seafood exports is expected to bolster Pakistan’s economy, providing livelihoods for thousands of fishermen and contributing to the national GDP. This development also positions Pakistan as a competitive player in the global seafood market, potentially attracting foreign investment and partnerships.
Looking ahead, the government plans to hold discussions with industry stakeholders to explore new markets and improve export strategies. Initiatives aimed at enhancing quality control and sustainability in fishing practices are also on the agenda to ensure long-term growth in the sector.
