Pakistan Stock Exchange Sees Modest Gains Amid Profit-Taking Pressures
KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a notable uptick on Wednesday, driven by strong buying interest at attractive valuations. The benchmark KSE-100 index surged above 171,000 points during intraday trading, ultimately closing at 169,969.33 points, marking a gain of 368.92 points or 0.22%. This positive movement ended a two-session losing streak.
According to Topline Securities Ltd, the index reached an intraday high of 171,492.53 points, buoyed by selective buying. However, profit-taking and ongoing geopolitical concerns, particularly regarding the US-Iran conflict, led to a pullback, preventing the index from maintaining its momentum above the psychologically significant level of 170,000 points.
Ali Najib, Deputy Head of Trading at Arif Habib Ltd, noted that while the PSX had a positive trading session, it ultimately fell short of sustaining gains above the crucial threshold, concluding September below this milestone. The session saw the index remain in positive territory for most of the day before succumbing to renewed selling pressure.
On the macroeconomic front, the Ministry of Finance introduced a Strategic Action Plan for the Local Currency Bond Market, aimed at enhancing secondary-market liquidity and broadening the investment landscape. This initiative is expected to bolster investor confidence and improve market conditions moving forward.
