Pakistani and Chinese Armies Launch Joint Training Exercise in Xinjiang
KORLA, XINJIANG: A joint training exercise between the Pakistani and Chinese armies, named ‘Karakoram 2026’, commenced on Wednesday in the Xinjiang province of China. This initiative aims to enhance military collaboration and counter-terrorism capabilities between the two nations.
The opening ceremony took place at a training base in Korla city, as reported by the China Military Bugle, the official media outlet of the Chinese armed forces. During the event, both sides exchanged valuable counter-terrorism experiences, with Pakistani troops gaining insights into various Chinese weapons and military equipment.
Colonel Chen Xi, the press secretary of China’s defense ministry, emphasized that the exercise is designed to deepen exchanges and cooperation, particularly in responding to terrorism threats. He noted that the training would focus on joint anti-terrorism operations at high altitudes, incorporating advanced techniques such as drone operations, on-the-move target search and firing, and long-range sniping.
As the exercise unfolds, it is expected to strengthen the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, particularly in military terms, which could have broader implications for regional security dynamics. Observers will be keenly watching how this collaboration evolves and its potential impact on counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
