PM Shehbaz Affirms Abundant Wheat Supply, Vows Action Against Hoarders
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Tuesday that Pakistan has an ample supply of wheat to meet domestic needs, emphasizing a strict stance against hoarding practices. This declaration came during the inaugural meeting of the National Agricultural and Food Security Council (NAFSC) held in the capital.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz highlighted the importance of ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their produce. He stated, “No leniency will be shown to those hoarding wheat. It is essential to determine the fair price of wheat before sowing so that farmers receive appropriate compensation for their labour.” His remarks reflect a commitment to stabilizing the agricultural sector and protecting the interests of local farmers.
The Prime Minister’s statements come at a crucial time as the country faces challenges related to food security and inflation. By addressing the issue of hoarding, the government aims to prevent artificial shortages and price hikes that could adversely affect consumers and the economy.
Looking ahead, the government plans to implement measures to monitor wheat distribution and pricing closely. Further discussions are expected in upcoming NAFSC meetings to formulate strategies that ensure a steady supply of essential commodities and support for the agricultural community.
