PM Shehbaz Orders Ministries to Share Data for Digital Nation Initiative
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed all federal ministries to expedite the submission of relevant data to the Digital Nation Pakistan programme within the stipulated timeframe. Presiding over a high-level review meeting in the federal capital, the premier emphasized that the establishment of a centralized, national-level data centre is critical to modernizing governance and improving the delivery of public services across the country.
During the session, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted that assigning clear responsibilities to federal ministries and integrating their data into a unified central repository would align Pakistan’s administrative systems with contemporary global standards. “The Digital Nation Pakistan programme is essentially aimed at ensuring efficient, transparent, and convenient services for citizens nationwide,” the prime minister stated. He pointed out that previous data-sharing initiatives among state institutions had already proven highly successful, citing the seamless implementation of the targeted fuel subsidy scheme for marginalized segments of society.
The transition toward a fully digitized governance model is expected to significantly reduce bureaucratic red tape, curb corruption, and enhance fiscal transparency. By consolidating ministerial performance metrics and public data, the government aims to create a robust digital ecosystem capable of supporting data-driven policy decisions. Experts believe that a centralized data infrastructure will not only optimize resource allocation but also foster greater trust between the state and its citizens by making public facilities more accessible.
To ensure swift execution, the prime minister instructed the relevant authorities to monitor the progress of each ministry closely and address any technical or administrative bottlenecks immediately. The federal ministries have been tasked with submitting comprehensive compliance reports in the coming weeks, marking a decisive step toward the complete digitization of Pakistan’s state machinery.
