PM Shehbaz Sets Up Dar-Led High-Level Panel to Monitor KP Affairs
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed an 11-member high-powered committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to oversee administrative, governance, and security affairs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the imposition of an emergency in the northwestern province. The specialized ministerial body is tasked with monitoring day-to-day developments and maintaining direct federal oversight in coordination with the newly established provincial setup.
The committee, formed informally to facilitate rapid decision-making, will report daily to the prime minister on critical matters pertaining to security, civil administration, and institutional coordination. It comprises prominent cabinet members and coalition leaders, including Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and PM’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah. Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, alongside representatives from the Pakistan Peoples Party, Balochistan Awami Party, and Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party, have also been included to ensure broad coalition representation.
The move comes at a critical juncture as the federal government seeks to address severe security challenges and stabilize governance structures across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ministerial panel will maintain close liaison with the newly formed KP Advisory Council, assisting in the discharge of executive responsibilities and coordinating law enforcement operations amid rising concerns over regional peace and militancy.
Federal officials indicated that the committee will hold regular operational sessions in the federal capital to review security assessments provided by intelligence institutions and civil administration. Further administrative directives and resource allocations for law enforcement agencies operating across the province are expected to be finalized during the panel’s inaugural briefing later this week.
