PML-N and PPP Leaders Convene to Address KP Emergency and Governance
ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its key ally, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), convened a crucial meeting on Tuesday to assess the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule. The discussions also included the proposed Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms (PCER).
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led the consultative meeting, which saw the participation of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari along with his delegation, including Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, Senator Sherry Rehman, and Raja Pervez Ashraf. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti were also present, alongside several federal cabinet members and senior officials.
In a separate engagement, Prime Minister Shehbaz met with Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss the broader national situation, as reported by a source from the Prime Minister’s Office. The meeting was described as long overdue, focusing on the current challenges faced by all provinces.
Governor Kundi provided a briefing to the Prime Minister regarding the ongoing issues in KP, emphasizing the need for immediate attention and strategic planning. The outcomes of this meeting could significantly influence governance and political stability in the region, as well as the federal government’s approach to electoral reforms.
