Policeman Killed, Another Wounded in Attack on Police in KP’s Tank District

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A policeman was martyred and another injured when unidentified assailants targeted law enforcement personnel stationed at a hospital in Jandola, a merged tehsil of Tank district, on Friday. The attack occurred as the officers were on duty at the hospital’s entrance.

According to police reports, the attackers opened fire and hurled a hand grenade at the policemen before fleeing the scene. Authorities have initiated a search operation in the area to locate the assailants, although further details regarding the attackers’ identities remain unavailable.

This incident follows a recent attack earlier in the week, where three traffic policemen were martyred in a similar ambush in the Wazirabad Bazaar area of Tank district. In that incident, the assailants also stole the police vehicle, which was later recovered. The surge in violence against police personnel raises serious concerns about security in the region.

In the broader context, this month has seen a troubling escalation in violence, with at least 21 individuals, including 15 police officials, killed in a devastating attack involving an explosives-laden vehicle near a mosque in Kohat Police Lines. The increasing frequency of such attacks underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism in the region.
