Powerful Rain System Enters Pakistan as Authorities Issue High Alert

ISLAMABAD: A powerful rain-bearing weather system has officially entered Pakistan, prompting federal and provincial disaster management authorities to issue a high alert for all relevant departments. The meteorological development has already triggered heavy downpours, gusty winds, and hailstorms across Peshawar, several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Punjab, bringing a sudden and dramatic drop in temperatures and disrupting daily life in several areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that this intense weather system is likely to spread across Balochistan, Sindh, and Kashmir over the next forty-eight hours, bringing widespread precipitation. In response, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has directed provincial and district administrations to immediately mobilize emergency response teams, rescue personnel, and heavy machinery to clear potential landslides in mountainous terrains and manage urban flooding in low-lying metropolitan areas.

While the rainfall is expected to significantly improve air quality, replenish water reservoirs, and wash away persistent smog in major industrial cities, agricultural experts have raised concerns regarding the impact of heavy hailstorms on standing seasonal crops. Farmers in the fertile plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been advised to take immediate precautionary measures to protect their yields from strong winds and waterlogging in the fields.

Looking ahead, emergency control rooms have been established at the district level to monitor the situation around the clock and coordinate rescue operations if needed. The NDMA has strongly advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys to northern hilly areas, including Murree, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan, until the weather system subsides and roads are declared safe by transit authorities.
