ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has unveiled alarming findings from its Cyber Security Annual Report 2025-26, revealing 326 significant cyber threat indicators detected through Dark Web monitoring over the past year. Among these, 174 incidents of website defacement, 87 data leaks, and 41 distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) threats were identified, underscoring the persistent vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.

According to the report, website defacement emerged as the most frequent cyber threat, raising concerns among cybersecurity experts and government officials alike. The PTA emphasized the need for enhanced protective measures and public awareness to combat these growing threats. “The rise in cyber incidents highlights the urgent need for robust cybersecurity frameworks and proactive measures to safeguard our digital assets,” a PTA spokesperson stated.

The implications of these findings are significant for citizens and businesses alike, as they reflect a broader trend of increasing cyber insecurity that could undermine trust in digital services and e-commerce. As Pakistan continues to digitize its economy, the risks associated with cyber threats could hinder growth and innovation.

In response to these challenges, the PTA is expected to convene a series of meetings with stakeholders in the tech industry and law enforcement agencies to discuss strategies for improving cybersecurity measures. The authority aims to implement new regulations and enhance monitoring capabilities to better protect against future cyber threats.
