Punjab Exempts Newer Cars From Fitness Certificate Requirement
LAHORE: The Punjab Provincial Transport Authority has announced that newer vehicles will be exempt from the fitness certificate requirement for a designated period, depending on their engine capacity and manufacturing date. This decision aims to streamline vehicle regulations and reduce the burden on car owners.
According to the latest notification, cars with engine capacities up to 1,000cc will need to obtain a fitness certificate only after five years from their date of manufacture. This policy is part of the government’s efforts to modernize transport regulations and encourage the use of newer, more efficient vehicles on the roads.
This exemption is expected to benefit a significant number of car owners in Punjab, potentially easing financial pressures associated with vehicle maintenance. By reducing the frequency of mandatory inspections for newer cars, the provincial government hopes to promote the purchase of modern vehicles, which are generally more environmentally friendly and safer.
Moving forward, the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority is expected to monitor the impact of this policy closely and may consider further adjustments based on public feedback and compliance rates. Stakeholders in the automotive industry are also encouraged to engage with the government to ensure that regulations remain conducive to growth and innovation.
