Punjab Government Launches ‘One Dollar Cinema’ Initiative to Boost Audience

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced the launch of the ‘One Dollar Cinema’ initiative aimed at increasing audience attendance in cinemas across the province. This initiative, unveiled by Punjab’s Minister for Information and Culture, Mariam Aurangzeb, seeks to revitalize the local film industry and attract more viewers to theaters.

During the announcement, Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of supporting the Pakistani film industry, which has faced significant challenges in recent years. She stated, “This initiative is designed to make cinema accessible to everyone, encouraging families and young people to enjoy films at an affordable price. We believe that cinema is a vital part of our culture and heritage, and we are committed to its revival.”

The ‘One Dollar Cinema’ initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy by boosting cinema attendance, which in turn can lead to increased revenue for filmmakers and cinema owners. This move is seen as a strategic effort to foster cultural engagement and promote the arts in Pakistan, especially in a time when entertainment options have been limited.

Looking ahead, the Punjab government plans to roll out the initiative in phases, with the first screenings expected to begin next month. Further details regarding participating cinemas and film schedules will be announced shortly, as officials aim to ensure a successful launch of this innovative program.
