Punjab Launches Rs300 Billion Interest-Free Loan Programme for Businesses

LAHORE: The Punjab government has unveiled a substantial Rs300 billion financing programme aimed at supporting local businesses through interest-free loans of up to Rs100 million. This initiative was announced by Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain during a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) held at PSIC House on Davis Road.

Minister Hussain emphasized the importance of this programme in fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth within the province. He stated, “This financing initiative is designed to empower small and medium enterprises, enabling them to thrive without the burden of interest payments, which often stifle growth. We are committed to creating a conducive environment for business development in Punjab.” The programme is expected to be a significant boost for local entrepreneurs, providing them with the necessary capital to expand their operations.

The introduction of this financing scheme comes at a critical time as businesses in Punjab face numerous challenges, including inflation and limited access to credit. By offering interest-free loans, the government aims to alleviate some of the financial pressures on businesses, potentially leading to job creation and increased economic activity in the region.

Looking ahead, the Punjab government plans to roll out further details regarding the application process and eligibility criteria for the financing programme in the coming weeks. Officials have indicated that they will conduct outreach efforts to ensure that all eligible businesses are informed and able to participate in this initiative.
