Punjab Traffic Police Empower Women with New Rickshaw Driving Initiative

LAHORE: The Punjab Traffic Police have successfully trained 34 women to operate rickshaws, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing women’s economic independence. This program, launched under the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, took place at driving schools in Bahria Town and Manawa.

The training was conducted in collaboration with a private university, marking a significant step towards empowering women in the transportation sector. Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized the importance of such initiatives in providing women with viable career options and fostering gender equality in traditionally male-dominated fields.

This initiative not only aims to improve women’s financial autonomy but also seeks to challenge societal norms regarding women’s roles in the workforce. By equipping women with driving skills, the program is expected to contribute positively to the local economy and inspire further initiatives that promote gender inclusivity.

Looking ahead, the Punjab government plans to expand this training program, potentially increasing the number of participants and introducing additional support services for women drivers. This initiative could pave the way for similar programs across other provinces, reinforcing the commitment to women’s empowerment in Pakistan.
