Rawalpindi Ring Road Completion Delayed by Unfinished Toll Facilities
RAWALPINDI: The much-anticipated 38-kilometer Rawalpindi Ring Road, designed to ease traffic congestion in the region, remains closed to vehicles due to incomplete toll plazas and related infrastructure. Although the road section from Baanth to Thalian is ready for use, officials have confirmed that minor works, including the construction of retaining walls, ramps, and greenbelts, are still pending.
A senior official from the divisional administration stated that the delay is primarily attributed to the ongoing work at the toll plazas and weighing stations, which are crucial for the road’s operational readiness. The official emphasized the importance of these facilities in managing traffic flow and ensuring safety for users once the road opens.
The delay in opening the Rawalpindi Ring Road has significant implications for local commuters and the economy. The road was expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the city, potentially reducing travel times and boosting local businesses by improving access. Citizens have expressed frustration over the prolonged wait, as the road’s completion was initially projected to enhance connectivity in the region.
Looking ahead, the divisional administration is expected to provide updates on the completion timeline for the remaining works. Stakeholders are hopeful that the road will open soon, allowing for improved traffic conditions and economic benefits for the surrounding areas.
