Rawalpindi’s Peshawar Road Underpasses Set for November Completion

RAWALPINDI: The divisional administration has directed the Communication and Works Department to expedite the completion of the Rs8 billion underpasses on Peshawar Road by November. Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani issued these instructions during a site visit to the Race Course Chowk and Charing Cross underpasses, where he assessed the ongoing construction progress.

During the visit, the superintending engineer of Highway Circle No 1 provided an update on the projects, indicating that significant structural work, including piling, deck slabs, and capping beams, has been completed. Currently, the installation of barriers, excavation of the underpasses, and the relocation of utility services are underway, with drainage works and road construction also in progress.

The overall construction progress is approximately 60 percent, with the remaining work scheduled for completion by November 2026. The Race Course Underpass is designed to feature two lanes for northbound traffic and three-level road lanes to enhance traffic flow and turning capabilities. Similarly, the Charing Cross Underpass is being constructed to accommodate southbound traffic, aiming to alleviate congestion on this busy thoroughfare.

As the deadline approaches, local residents and commuters are hopeful that the completion of these underpasses will significantly improve traffic conditions in the area. The administration is expected to monitor the progress closely and ensure that all remaining tasks are completed on schedule.
