Record-Breaking Renshaw Leads Australia to Dominance in Durban Test

DURBAN: Matt Renshaw delivered a stunning performance, scoring a career-best 190 runs to propel Australia to a total of 390 all out on the second day of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead on Saturday. The home side managed to reach 27 for one in their reply before play was halted due to bad light.

Renshaw’s innings was marked by a record ninth-wicket partnership of 134 runs with Nathan Lyon, who contributed 27 runs. This partnership not only set a new record for Australia against South Africa but also became the highest for the ninth wicket in Durban’s cricket history. Renshaw reflected on his innings, stating, “There was a lot of thinking today while batting. How many balls can I face? How do I get off strike when I need to?”

The day was particularly challenging for South Africa, who lost Ryan Rickelton for a duck, caught at third slip by Beau Webster off Josh Hazlewood’s bowling. Aiden Markram (15 not out) and David Bedingham (12 not out) will resume their innings on the third day, looking to recover from the early setback.

As the match progresses, the Australian team will aim to capitalize on their strong position, while South Africa must regroup to mount a competitive response. The upcoming sessions will be crucial for both teams as they navigate the challenges of the pitch and the pressure of the Test match.
