Russia Declares European Arms Factories as Legitimate Military Targets
MOSCOW/BRUSSELS: Russia’s Foreign Ministry has declared that factories in Europe producing arms for Ukraine are legitimate military targets. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made this assertion during a press briefing on Wednesday, emphasizing that European nations are directly involved in the ongoing conflict through their military support for Ukraine.
Zakharova’s comments came in response to inquiries regarding Poland’s willingness to host a factory for producing Patriot interceptor missiles intended for Ukraine. She stated that such military assistance prolongs the conflict and undermines efforts for a peaceful resolution. “Weapons factories in European countries that produce arms for Ukraine are potential military targets for Russia, and one should not assume that military factories outside Ukrainian territory which produce weapons for the Kyiv regime will be safe,” she warned.
This declaration raises significant concerns about the implications for European security and the ongoing military support for Ukraine. NATO and various European nations have reiterated their commitment to assist Ukraine in repelling Russian forces and defending against aerial threats, including drones and missiles. The potential targeting of arms factories could escalate tensions further and complicate the already fragile security landscape in Europe.
As the situation evolves, NATO officials have stated that there is currently no imminent threat to allied territory from Russia. However, the alliance continues to monitor developments closely. Future discussions among NATO members regarding military support for Ukraine are expected, particularly in light of Russia’s aggressive stance.
