Saudi Arabia Shifts Schools in Jeddah and Rabigh to Online Learning
JEDDAH: The General Directorate of Education in Jeddah has officially transitioned all public and private schools across Jeddah and Rabigh to virtual learning, implementing precautionary measures to ensure the safety and uninterrupted academic progress of students.
According to official directives, the remote learning mechanism commenced on Sunday and will remain in effect through Thursday. Meanwhile, educational authorities in Riyadh have concurrently extended the ongoing distance-learning protocol—which has been active for over a month—until the end of the current week. Education officials noted that virtual classes will be conducted seamlessly via national digital learning platforms, ensuring teachers and students remain fully engaged in the prescribed curriculum.
The move highlights Saudi Arabia’s robust digital infrastructure within its education sector, developed rapidly to adapt to emergency shifts and precautionary protocols. Parents and guardians have been advised to ensure students follow their regular schedules online, as attendance and academic assessments will continue to be monitored rigorously by district supervisors.
Regional education directorates across the Kingdom are expected to evaluate situational reports at the end of the week before deciding whether to resume full in-person classes or extend distance learning further. Authorities emphasized that student health, safety, and continuous learning remain the highest priorities driving these operational adjustments.
