September Fuel Cost Adjustment to Increase Power Bills by Rs32.7 Billion
ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has announced a projected fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs2.56 per unit for electricity consumed in September, which is expected to add approximately Rs32.7 billion to consumers’ electricity bills in November.
The adjustment, which reflects the rising costs of fuel, would have been significantly higher at around Rs3.44 per unit if not for targeted load management strategies implemented to mitigate the financial burden on consumers. Officials from the Power Division emphasized the necessity of these adjustments to maintain the stability of the electricity supply amidst fluctuating fuel prices.
This increase in electricity bills is likely to have a considerable impact on households and businesses across the country, exacerbating the financial strain on consumers already grappling with inflation. Analysts warn that such hikes could lead to further public discontent and calls for government intervention to stabilize energy prices.
Looking ahead, the Power Division is expected to hold discussions with stakeholders to explore potential measures to alleviate the financial impact on consumers. Additionally, the government may consider revising its energy policy to better address the challenges posed by rising fuel costs and ensure sustainable energy pricing.
