Sindh Government to Distribute Subsidized Wheat Amid Rising Flour Prices

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced the distribution of subsidized wheat to flour mills starting October 15, in response to soaring flour prices across the province, particularly in Karachi.

Flour mill owners have recently increased the price of flour by PKR 20 per kilogram, pushing the cost of a 10-kilogram bag to PKR 1900. This price hike has raised concerns among consumers and local businesses, prompting the government to intervene with a subsidy aimed at stabilizing the market.

The rising cost of flour has significant implications for food security in the region, affecting low-income households the hardest. The government’s decision to distribute subsidized wheat is expected to alleviate some of the financial burden on consumers and curb further inflation in staple food items.

As the government prepares for the rollout of this subsidy, officials are expected to monitor the situation closely and may hold meetings with flour mill representatives to ensure compliance and assess the impact of these measures on market prices.
