Sindh to Host Major Energy and Climate Conference on November 3-4

Sindh Energy and Climate Conference

KARACHI: Seven organizations have announced a two-day Sindh Energy and Climate Conference, scheduled for November 3 and 4, marking the province’s largest gathering focused on energy issues. The event aims to unite policymakers, experts, climate activists, and affected communities, with notable attendance expected from Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

At a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club, Yasir Darya, Director of the Climate Action Centre, emphasized that despite Sindh’s significant contribution to the national electricity supply, particularly to Punjab, the province lacks a comprehensive energy policy. The conference will address the urgent need for such a policy and explore its potential framework.

This gathering is organized by a coalition of groups including Sath, the Climate Action Centre Karachi, and the Pakistan Research Institute for Energy and Development, among others. Darya highlighted the organizers’ goal of fostering maximum government engagement, with CM Shah confirmed to attend on the second day, alongside representatives from various ministries related to energy and climate.

As the conference approaches, stakeholders are keen to see actionable outcomes that could influence Sindh’s energy strategy and climate resilience efforts. The event is expected to pave the way for future collaborations and policy developments in the region.
