Singapore and Pakistan Strengthen Ties in Trade and Digital Technologies
ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Singaporean counterpart Dr Vivian Balakrishnan on Friday to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, agriculture, infrastructure development, and digital technologies, as announced by the Foreign Office (FO) on Saturday.
During the official visit, which was initiated at Dar’s invitation, both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of their countries’ relations and exchanged insights on regional and international developments. The FO emphasized the importance of deepening Pakistan’s engagement with ASEAN, particularly in light of Singapore’s upcoming chairmanship of the organization.
This visit signifies a pivotal moment for Pakistan as it seeks to bolster its economic ties with Southeast Asia, a region that is increasingly becoming vital for global trade and investment. The discussions are expected to pave the way for enhanced collaboration that could lead to significant economic benefits for both nations, particularly in the realms of technology and infrastructure.
Looking ahead, both countries are expected to schedule further meetings to solidify agreements made during this visit, with a focus on actionable steps to implement the discussed initiatives. This partnership could also open doors for future collaborations with other ASEAN nations, further integrating Pakistan into the regional economic landscape.
