Supreme Court of Pakistan Launches 1818 Legal Call Centre for Citizens

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has officially inaugurated the 1818 Legal Call Centre, a dedicated helpline aimed at providing citizens with free legal guidance and court-related information. This initiative was launched in a ceremony attended by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, marking a significant step towards enhancing access to legal resources for the public.

During the inauguration, Chief Justice Afridi emphasized the importance of making legal assistance accessible to all citizens, particularly those who may not have the means to seek professional legal advice. Muhammad Saleem, a citizen, became the first caller to the helpline, symbolically initiating this new service that aims to bridge the gap between the judiciary and the general public.

The establishment of the 1818 Legal Call Centre is expected to empower citizens by providing them with essential legal information and referrals to legal aid services. This initiative not only reflects the Supreme Court’s commitment to improving the legal framework in Pakistan but also addresses the pressing need for accessible legal support in a country where many face challenges in navigating the judicial system.

Looking ahead, the Supreme Court plans to monitor the effectiveness of the helpline and may introduce additional features based on user feedback. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance transparency and public engagement within the legal system, ensuring that citizens are better informed about their rights and legal options.
