Survey Reveals Rising Online Risks for Pakistani Children Amid Digital Growth
ISLAMABAD: A recent survey conducted by Kaspersky has unveiled alarming trends regarding the online activities of children in Pakistan, highlighting significant cybersecurity threats they face on various digital platforms, particularly in multiplayer online games and emerging risks linked to artificial intelligence.
The survey, which focuses on the digital interests of children across Kaspersky’s Middle East, Turkiye, and Africa (META) region, indicates that YouTube is the most popular mobile application among Pakistani children, with 31.2% usage. Instagram follows with 18.8%, while WhatsApp accounts for 17.4%. Facebook and TikTok are also notable, with 10.8% and 5.7% respectively. These statistics underscore the growing digital engagement of youth in the country.
This rise in digital interaction raises concerns about the potential exposure of children to various online dangers, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and privacy violations. Experts warn that as children increasingly navigate these platforms, the need for robust cybersecurity measures becomes more critical to protect their online experiences.
In response to these findings, Kaspersky emphasizes the importance of educating both children and parents about safe online practices. Future initiatives may include workshops and resources aimed at enhancing digital literacy and awareness of cybersecurity threats.
