US Approves $1 Billion Arms Sale to UAE to Enhance Defense Capabilities

WASHINGTON: The United States has approved a significant arms sale to the United Arab Emirates, valued at $1 billion, which includes up to 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System guidance sections for rockets. This announcement was made on Monday by the US State Department, highlighting the strategic importance of the sale in bolstering the UAE’s defense capabilities.

The State Department emphasized that the proposed sale aims to enhance the UAE’s ability to address both current and future threats, thereby fostering a robust self-defense mechanism and improving interoperability with US forces. This move is also aligned with the US foreign policy and national security objectives, reinforcing the security of a key defense partner in the region.

The Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System is designed to transform unguided rockets into precision munitions, allowing for effective engagement of threats such as drones without resorting to expensive missile systems. This capability is particularly crucial for the UAE and other Gulf allies, who have faced increased aggression from Iranian forces, including drone and missile attacks.

In addition to the UAE deal, the State Department announced a separate $400 million arms sale to Kuwait, further underscoring the US commitment to strengthening defense ties with its Gulf allies. As regional tensions continue to escalate, these sales are expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing the military readiness of the UAE and Kuwait.
