Zverev Dominates De Minaur to Secure Spot in Shanghai Masters Semi-Finals

SHANGHAI: Top seed Alexander Zverev showcased his dominance on Thursday, defeating Australia’s Alex de Minaur with a score of 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

Zverev, who is set to finish the year as the world number one, faced a challenging first set against De Minaur’s speed. However, he executed a series of impressive forehands, converting a crucial break point in the fifth game. Despite a double fault, Zverev held his serve, ultimately clinching the first set with a smooth backhand volley.

In the second set, Zverev maintained his momentum, breaking De Minaur’s serve in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. The 27-year-old Australian fought valiantly but could not withstand Zverev’s relentless pressure, who sealed the match on his first match point. “Good match for me,” Zverev remarked post-match. “Very satisfied with my level… it was a huge step up from the last couple of matches.” This victory marks a significant improvement for Zverev, who had required three sets to win his previous two matches.

Looking ahead, Zverev will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semi-finals, following Fokina’s advancement due to Arthur Gea’s retirement after just 22 minutes of play.
