Lawmakers Criticize 5G Rollout Amid Ongoing Internet Speed Issues in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s lawmakers have raised serious concerns regarding the country’s internet infrastructure, questioning the feasibility of the ongoing 5G rollout amidst persistent issues with existing connectivity. The discussions took place during a parliamentary session focused on the state of telecommunications in the nation.

During the session, several lawmakers highlighted the inadequacy of current internet speeds, which they argue hampers economic growth and access to information. “How can we expect to leap into 5G when 4G services are barely functional?” questioned a member of the National Assembly, emphasizing the need for immediate improvements in the existing network.

The criticism reflects broader implications for citizens who rely on stable internet for education, business, and communication. As Pakistan strives to position itself as a digital economy, the lack of reliable internet services could deter foreign investment and hinder technological advancement.

In response to these concerns, the Ministry of Information Technology is expected to convene a meeting next week to address the lawmakers’ grievances and outline a plan for enhancing internet services before further advancing the 5G initiative.
