Pakistan Launches E-Passport Initiative to Streamline Travel Process

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan officially launches its e-passport initiative today, marking a significant advancement in the country’s immigration and travel processes. This initiative will enable the issuance of electronic passports at Pakistani diplomatic missions worldwide, enhancing the efficiency and security of passport services.

Director General of Immigration and Passports, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, announced the rollout during a press briefing, emphasizing the government’s commitment to modernizing travel documentation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has endorsed this initiative as part of broader efforts to improve national services and facilitate overseas Pakistanis.

The introduction of e-passports is expected to simplify the application process for citizens, reduce waiting times, and bolster security measures against fraud. This move aligns with global trends in passport technology, positioning Pakistan to better serve its diaspora and strengthen international relations.

Looking ahead, the government plans to monitor the implementation of the e-passport system closely and may introduce additional features such as biometric verification to further enhance security. Citizens are encouraged to apply for their e-passports through designated channels as the initiative rolls out across the country.
