KARACHI: A consignment of approximately 51,000 metric tonnes of imported wheat has successfully arrived at Karachi Port, as confirmed by the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on Wednesday. The geared vessel MV GOKOVA M docked at Berths 16 and 17 at 12:25 PM on October 28, marking a significant addition to the country’s wheat reserves.

The KPT’s press release detailed that the MV GOKOVA M was carrying a declared manifest of 51,000 metric tonnes of wheat. This shipment is part of ongoing efforts to bolster food security in the region amidst fluctuating domestic production levels. Another vessel, MV GREAT RAINBOW, is expected to arrive on November 3 with an additional 599,000 metric tonnes of wheat, bringing the total declared wheat cargo to over 110,000 metric tonnes.

This influx of imported wheat is crucial for stabilizing local markets and ensuring that supply meets demand, especially as the country grapples with agricultural challenges. The KPT highlighted its capacity to facilitate bulk commodity handling through the Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose Limited (KGTML), which plays a vital role in supporting the smooth flow of essential goods.

Looking ahead, the arrival of the MV GREAT RAINBOW will further enhance the wheat supply chain, providing relief to consumers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the imported wheat is efficiently distributed across the country.
