Lahore Police Arrest Two Impersonators in Honeytrap Extortion Scheme
LAHORE: Law enforcement authorities in Lahore have arrested two bogus police personnel for their alleged involvement in a honeytrap extortion scheme targeting unsuspecting citizens, officials confirmed on Friday.
According to police officials, the action was executed by the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station following a formal complaint filed by an affected victim. The suspects reportedly utilized fraudulent credentials and coercive tactics, luring targets through deceptive social interactions before posing as law enforcement officers to blackmail and extort significant sums of money.
Incidents involving digital honeytraps and law enforcement impersonation have raised growing concerns across urban centers in Punjab. Authorities emphasized that such criminal networks severely damage public trust in legitimate state institutions, prompting police departments to intensify surveillance and crackdowns against fraudulent rings operating in the province.
Police confirmed that a case has been formally registered against both suspects under relevant provisions of the law. Investigators are conducting further interrogations to identify additional accomplices and ascertain whether the network was linked to broader extortion rackets operating across the provincial capital.
